Every Mother and Newborn Deserves a Fighting Chance, No Matter Where They Are Born

BAWO Foundation trains healthcare workers, delivers critical supplies, and builds lasting clinical capacity in under-resourced communities across the United States and sub-Saharan Africa, so that every mother and newborn receives the care they deserve at every stage.

Every Program We Run Is Clinically Grounded

Every program BAWO runs is clinically grounded — designed by someone who works inside the maternal and newborn health crisis every day, not from a distance. That foundation shapes every training curriculum, every supply decision, and every community we choose to serve.

The foundation carries a deeper legacy — rooted in the life of Madam Bessie (Bawo) Wilson Omuso, whose commitment to family and community now drives the mission forward across two continents.

How It Works

From Support to Impact

Three ways your support moves from intention to impact in communities that need it most.

01

See the Work

Explore what BAWO has already accomplished — the training sessions completed, the communities reached, and the healthcare workers equipped to serve the families in their care. The work is real and it is ongoing.

02

Choose How You Contribute

Whether you give as an individual, partner as an organization, or connect your network to the mission — there is a path that fits how you want to show up.

03

Lives Change

Your contribution goes directly into the field. Nurses and midwives get trained. Supplies reach clinics and community health workers. Families in under-resourced communities gain access to care that supports mothers and newborns through every stage — before birth, during delivery, and beyond.

Your Support Saves Lives That Should Not Be Lost

Every donation funds nurse training, medical supplies, antenatal care support, and community health education in communities that need it most. The need is real. The path is simple.

Your Support Has Already Made a Difference

Every project below is completed and documented. This is not what BAWO plans to do — it is what BAWO has already done.

Four Ways We Close the Gap

We improve health and well-being through four key strategic areas.

Education

Specialized clinical training for nurses, midwives, birth attendants, physicians, community health workers, and traditional birthing attendants — focused on the exact skills that save lives in the most critical moments of childbirth.

Research

Addressing health disparities in maternal and neonatal outcomes through evidence-based documentation — so that every program BAWO runs is informed by the realities of the communities being served.

Advocacy

Championing policy and systemic change for pregnant women and newborns in under-resourced communities — because training and supplies matter, and so does the environment in which care is delivered.

Empowerment

Supporting mothers, families, and community health workers to become lifelong advocates for maternal and newborn health — because lasting change is built from inside the communities being served.
